India on Sunday welcomed the swearing-in of United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. The swearing-in ceremony marked an end to the nearly two-month-long political crisis that unfolded in thenation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) quoted by DNA India said that the resolution of the political issues was a reflection of the maturity demonstrated by all political forces.
"As a close neighbour and true friend, India welcomes the resolution of the political situation in Sri Lanka. This is a reflection of the maturity demonstrated by all political forces, and also of the resilience of Sri Lankan democracy and its institutions," MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
He said India remains committed to taking forward its people oriented development projects in Sri Lanka.
"We are confident that India-Sri Lanka relations will continue to move on an upward trajectory."

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
