An Indian national was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle 1.2 kilograms of Hashish worth Rs 2 million into the country yesterday (Dec 30).
The arrest was carried out by officials of the Police Narcotics Bureau when the suspect had arrived from Banglore, India.
According to the police, the suspect had concealed the contraband inside a fake packing that was found inside his travelling bag.
The suspect has been identified as a 30-year old individual and will be produced before the Meegamuwa Magistrates Court today.
Officials of the Police Narcotics Bureau are carrying out further investigations in this regard.
