Indian Prime Minister Modi arrives in the island, declares open Vesak Celebrations

 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who  arrived in Sri Lanka today evening declared open the Vesak celebrations around the Gangaramaya Temple premises.
 
Earlier on arrival he was welcomed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and other cabinet ministers before heading to the Gangaramaya.
Tomorrow Premier Modi is due to be the chief guest of the UN international Vesak day celebrations on Friday which is taking place in the country for the first time in 14 years.

‘This event also is a tribute to the contribution that Buddhism as made, and continues to make, towards the spirituality and the well-being of humaniity’,  Prime Minister Modi said in a message before arrival.
