Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today (Mar 28) told ministers that the government must take the full responsibility for the power crisis.
During a discussion with MPs at Temple Trees, Mr. Wickremesinghe had pointed out that the government cannot evade its responsibility of providing uninterrupted power supply to the people under any circumstances.
Further, he had urged that every possible measure must be taken to provide a continuous supply of electricity required by the people.
The Prime Minister had proceeded to question as to why the agreements which were signed between August 2015 and October 2018 with India, Japan, and China to set-up wind power plants were not implemented.
He had pointed out that it was the inefficiency of certain individuals had affected the process of installing three wind power plants during the said time frame.
On the same lines, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had observed that these power plants would have been functioning by now if construction activities had taken place over the last three years.
Mr. Wickremesinghe also noted that electricity generators which have been ordered from other countries are expected to arrive within the next few days.
