An inmate who attempted to escape the Welikada prison has been caught this morning.
The prisoner is serving a four-year imprisonment term over a theft and has been placed under custody at the Chapel Ward of the prison.
Prisons sources said that the inmate was reported to have been missing since last evening.
Upon questioning, the prisoner said he wanted to return back home to celebrate the New Year.
