The Attorney General (AG) issued instructions today (July 9) to Director, Criminal Investigations Division (CID) to name Army Intelligence Officer Lalith Rajapksha as a suspect in the case involving the abduction and assault of journalist Keith Noyer.
Further, instructions were given to record a statement from Mr. Rajapaksha and to produce him before Court claiming that sufficient evidence had been disclosed with regard to his involvement over the incident.
Yesterday, Intelligence Officer Rajapaksha was produced before the Gampaha Magistrate's court and remanded till July 21 over the assault of newspaper editor Upali Tennakoon in 2009. He was arrested today after the CID matched his fingerprint with that which were found in a van used on the day of the assault.
Rajapaksa is said to be an officer who was attached to the controversial Tripoli Army Camp in Maradana.
