The issuance of sand mining licences will be temporarily suspended in the Trincomalee District from tomorrow (Feb 15) onwards, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) said.
The temporary suspension would be in effect until February 28, GSMB Director General Dr C.H.E.R. Siriwardhana added.
He explained that the decision to implement this move was taken due to the recent problems concerning sand mining that were faced in the area.
