The Jaffna- Colombo train service re-commenced operations today in keeping up with COVID-19 health regulations after nearly three months since the islandwide curfew was imposed in mid-March, the Railway Control room said.
The Colombo bound AC-Intercity train left Jaffna railway station at 5.45 am today, according to Jaffna Railway Station Master K.Pratheepan. Another service also launched at 9.45 am.
Steps are taken to ensure health regulations introduced by the Health Ministry are followed at railway stations.
Meanwhile the Navy conducted a special disinfection programme yesterday at the Kankesanthurai railway station to sterilize train
compartments to help resume railway transportation while curbing the threat of COVID – 19.
The sterilization programme was conducted by the Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit of the Northern Naval Command. This sterilization programme was implemented to ensure the safety of railway passengers, especially when the public transport service is gradually returning to normalcy.
