The Jaffna High Court yesterday issued order banning to carry out any form of animal sacrifice in Hindu temples located in Northern province.
Issuing order on a case filed by Hindu Maha Sabha in Jaffna, High Court Judge M. Illancheliyan, noted that the ritual practices should be stopped considering the act as a primitive and cruel to animals.
Earlier an interim ban was effective over a a case filed against the Narasimma Kovil in Kavunawatte against its annual animal sacrifice festival.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
