Smart phone sales have increased in North owing to the recent COVID-19 curfew and lockdown.
Amidst the lockdown, the Northern Province Education Department and the private tuition centres started online Zoom classes for the students. The online Zoom classes were conducted from the preschools to A/L in all the subjects.
The parents who were using the ordinary mobile phones shifted to purchasing smart phones for their kids’ educational purposes. Poor parents in rural areas began purchasing smart phones under lease arrangements, some case studies show. (By N. Parameswaran, Jaffna correspondent) p[
