Three faculties of University of Jaffna have been closed until further notice in view of tensed situation in the university premises, Vice Chancelleor R. Vigneswaran said.
The decison was taken after student unions closed main gates of university yesterday calling to boycott classes over an ongoing hunger protest of political prisoners in Anuradhapura prisons.
The student leaders who met President Maithripala Sirisena recently over the prisoners issue alleged no action was taken on the fate of three prisoners on strike.
Issuing a notice, Vice Chancellor of Jaffna University R. Vigneswaran said that the decision to close down the campus was taken after meeting with heads of three faculties this morning, despite assurances given.
Accordingly, Arts, Management and Science faculties are closed and students staying at university hostels instructed to vacate before tomorrow 4.00 pm. Meanwhile academic activities of Medical faculty is functioning without any disruption.
