Student activists of the Jaffna University who were arrested recently were released on bail by Jaffna Magistrate Peter Paul today (May 16).
The suspects which included the President and the Secretary of the Jaffna University students’ Union along with a medical faculty student were arrested with pictures of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and Anton Balasingham.
During today's hearing, court instructed that the suspects be released on a surety bail of Rs 100,000 each, while also ordering the students to appear before the Kopai Police every Sunday.
Meanwhile, Jaffna University students, members of the Jaffna University Employees Union along with civil activists had organised a protest yesterday demanding the release of the suspects.
