Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology, University of Colombo, Jagath Wellawatta has been appointed as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) with effect from December 27.
Mr. Wellawatta’s corporate experience spans across a spectrum of diverse fields. He served as the Chairman of the State Mortgage and Investment Bank (from May 2010 to January 2015) and was the former Chairman of the National Child Protection Authority (from April 2007 to May 2010). He also served as the Chairman of Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (from December 2005 to March 2007), SLI said in a media release.
His academic excellence includes obtaining the Master of Philosophy in Sociology from the University of Sri Jayawardhanapura, Master of Arts in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts (Hon) degree from the University of Colombo. He is currently reading for his PhD in Sociology at the University of Colombo affiliated to Deakin University, Australia.
Meanwhile Anil Kumara Meegahage, Anil Koswaththa, Nishantha Dayananda and Pubudu Wimalarathne have been appointed to the SLI board while K.A Vimalenthirarajah Treasury Representative will continue as a director on the board.
