Former minister Johnston Fernando further remanded till May 11, after being produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's court today. He was charged in a financial fraud that took place at Lanka Sathosa when he was the trade minister during the previous government. A request by his lawyer to send hime to the Welikada remand prision was turned down. He will be held at the Kegalle remand prision. Kalinga Indatissa, PC appearing for the former minister said that the offence does not come under the public property laws. He said that fees amounting to Rs 5.2 million has been paid back to the state.
