Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has said judicial independence has been shown through yesterdays verdict in favour of SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
He made these remarks after the Appeal Court dismissed a petition challenging the dual citizenship of Rajapaksa - a case which could have otherwise prevented him from contesting the Presidential poll.
The SLPP leader added that a cash deposit for parliamentarian Chamal Rajapaksa had been made to nominate him as the SLPP's alternative Presidential candidate if a court verdict is given against Gotabhaya.
