The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) held a silent protest in Puttalam town today (16) demanding equal education opportunities for children.
JVP members holding placards and banners inscribed with various slogans calling for equal education rights held the protest opposite the Puttalam Zonal Education Office.
The protesters pointed out that with children's education moving to online following the COVID-19 pandemic, parents have been forced to spend a lot of money obtaining internet facilities for their children. They called for the Government to take steps to provide free internet facilities for the benefit of the education of all children.
They also alleged that the Government had failed to devise a proper mechanism to revive the stalled education of children and called on authorities to take immediate steps in this regard.
