Accusing former President Mahinda Rajapaksa of inciting violence, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the latter was resorting to violent means to remain as Prime Minister.
Further Mr Dissanayake addressing a media briefing said following the passing of the no-confidence motion the government and the PM position have been dissolved.
“It is Mahinda Rajapaksa who instructed these groups to carry out the attacks in Parliament” he said at a briefing following the tension situation in Parliament for a second time.
Commenting on yesterday’s incident during which UNP MP Palitha Thewarapperuma was seen holding a knife during a scuffle, he said that necessary action must be taken without any doubt.
However, he added that the Speaker cannot be blamed for this incident as he does not possess the power to arrest MP Thewarapperuma by giving orders to the Police.
“The government MPs must protest opposite the President’s House as the Police is under his purview” said Mr. Dissanayake.
He further said that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had lodged a complaint with the Police on the incident thereby acting within the framework of the powers vested in him by the constitution.
