Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Sunil Handunnetti today appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court as a witness to give evidence in the case filed against Shashi Weerawansa, wife of former Minister and National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa.
The case, which was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne was filed against Ms Weerawansa for allegedly providing false information to the Department of Immigration and Emigration and obtaining a Diplomatic Passport along with a Normal Passport.
Giving evidence in court, MP Handunnetti said in his capacity as a Notary Public, that he placed his signature to certify an application to obtain a birth certificate submitted by Mr Weerawansa’s daughter.
Before the Chief Magistrate, Mr Handunnetti also identified the signature on the application as being his.
Further hearing on the case was postponed until March 14.
Court also issued notice to JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, who is also a witness in the case, to appear in court on the said date.
