JVP politburo member K D Lalkantha has been arrested by Anuradhapura Police a short while ago following an accident.
According to Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera, the accident took place when the vehicle that Mr Lalkantha was driving collided with a motorbike where two women riders were travelling on.
While both women have been admitted to the hospital, one woman is believed to be in critical condition.
Further, Police spokesman Gunasekera said Mr Lalkantha had been under the influence of liquor at the time the accident took place.
