Kandy schools to open on Monday - CM

All government schools in the Kandy administrative district will re-open on Monday (12), Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka has stated. Mr Ekanayaka is also the Central Province Education Minister.

Schools throughout the Kandy district had been closed since Monday due to communal disturbances. Police curfews have also been imposed throughout the Kandy administrative district at various times during the past five days. 

However, the situation has gradually improved following the declaration of a State of Emergency allowing security forces to be deployed to the area.
