Karunasena Ponnamperum was sworn in as the new Chairman of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha today (Dec 18).
Mr Ponnamperum was sworn in before the Governor of the Southern Province, Dr. Willie Gamage.
In addition, Mr. Nagoda Vithanage Jayasena was sworn in as the Deputy Chairman.
Other Members of the Pradeshiya Sabha were also sworn in before the Governor. Galle District Parliamentarian Ramesh Pathirana and former Parliamentarian Geetha Kumarasinghe were also present.
Fifteen members from the Sri Lankan Podujana Peramuna and 3 members from the United People's Freedom Alliance were elected for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha were sworn in.
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) won all 17 electorates at the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election held on October 11. The United National Party received 7 seats while the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna received 2 seats.
