The revision petition filed by parliamentarian Kumar Welgama over a fraud case filed against him will be taken up for consideration on August 26 by the Colombo High Court.
Mr. Welgama has been accused of causing losses worth Rs 3.2 million by illegally appointing L. A. Wimalaratne as the Deputy Chairman of the Transport Board in 2010.
The Bribery Commission moved the Colombo Magistrate's court over the case. The former transport minister had then filed preliminary objections by citing that the manner in which the charges have been levelled against him is illegal.
However, the Colombo Magistrate's court had decided to reject the objections and proceed with the case.
Accordingly, Mr. Welgama had filed a revision petition at the Colombo High court seeking to overturn the Magistrate's ruling to reject his preliminary objections.
