SriLankan Airlines chairman quits

News

In surprise development on Monday, state-owned SriLankan Airlines chairman Sarath Ganegoda has tendered his resignation from the post with effect from March 31, 2026, the airline announced.

He is also stepping down as head of SriLankan Airlines on the same date. No reasons were given for the move. Another director Rohan Goonetilleke has also stepped from both board positions.

The statement said Treasury representative on the board, A.K.D.D. Dimal Arandara will function as the acting chairman until a new appointment is made. Both Mr. Ganegoda and Mr. Goonetilleke are members of the Hayleys Group board of directors. They were appointed to the board of the state airline in October 2024 soon after Anura Kumara Dissanayake was elected President of Sri Lanka, contesting from the National’s People’s Power.
