Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa has been remanded until September 17 for robbing an individual at gunpoint in 2007.
The Attorney General has named the mayor as the first suspect over the incident which is being heard at the Kurunegala High Court. Three others have also been named as the accused in the case.
An arrest warrant had been issued on the suspect since he had not appeared for a hearing over the case last month. Lawyers representing the mayor informed court that their client had taken wing to Korea on state duties at that time.
High Court judge Menaka Wijesundera ordered that the case would be taken up for further hearing on September 17.
