Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his condolence message to veteran radio personality Kusum Peiris, has described her as the female voice which illuminated the golden era of the radio industry.
Issuing his condolences, the Prime Minister noted that Ms Peiris was a personality who excelled in several areas including arts and its related fields.
He further pointed out that she had excelled as a dubbing artist before moving onto become a radio announcer, and later a dubbing artist on television as well.
The Prime Minister noted that he was delighted to witness the veteran announcer returning to engage in radio programmes even after her retirement from the field. “This shows her bond towards the field of arts,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said.
He also said that the demise of the veteran personality left behind etched memories of her songs in the hearts of many people in the country. Peiris passed away today at the age of 71 following a brief illness.
