As the Government has facilitated farmers to engage in farming even during curfew declared to minimise the spread of the Coronavirus, farmers in Ambalantota in the Hambantota district are also busy harvesting their crops.
The Government has also granted special permission to mill owners and those purchasing paddy to transport paddy.
However, farmers point out that due to the climate of fear that prevails in the country owing to the Coronavirus, they are facing difficulties in finding workers needed to harvest their crops, bag them and transport them.
