Laggala Pradeshiya Sabha chairman and eight persons were arrested after they were found gambling in the Laggala area on Monday (14), Police said.
They said that among eight persons arrested was a person who had 221 milligrams of heroin. Police explained that they identified the person as a cannabis distributor who operates under the alias “Yaka”.
Police added that they also took custody of Rs 25,000 used for gambling.
They said that the Pradeshiya Sabha chairman and six suspects were granted police bail and the suspect found with heroin would be produced before the magistrate courts.
