A Sri Lankan couple who attempted to fly to UK from Chennai using a fake passport have been arrested yesterday (Feb 18), Indian media reported.
The suspects have been identified by the names of Vijayan and Yashoda and are residents of Vavunikulam.
Officials at the Chennai International Airport had arrested the suspects when they were about to take wing using a fake Malaysian passport.
Indian media reported that the Indian Terrorist Investigations Department has commenced investgiations to determine whether these individuals were linked to the Sri Lankan war in 2009.
The couple had confessed to the Immigration and Emigration officials in India stating that they had prepared the fake passport through a tourist guide in Sri Lanka.
Both individuals have now been placed under the custody of the Indian Immigration and Emigration Department for further investigations.
