Around 1900 kilos of heroin will be destroyed this year, in what would be the largest haul of heroin to be destroyed in the country, the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) said.
In addition, 100 kilos of cocaine will also be destroyed under the purview of President Maithripala Sirisena, and the supervision of magistrates and police officers.
PNB Deputy Inspector General Sajeewa Medawatte said that quantities of narcotics which were seized around two years back are expected to be destroyed in December.
Last year, more than 900 kilos of cocaine which were seized in 2016 were destroyed in public. A similar procedure was followed with 769 kilos of cocaine being destroyed earlier this year.
