The cabinet of ministers has granted approval to prepare a new bill which would prevent civilans from wearing or possessing army fatigues or any other identical uniform.
A proposal had been put forward over this matter by President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as Minister of Defence during yesterday’s cabinet meeting.
During the discussion, it had been observed that there is a growing trend for individuals to wear simillar clothing, and as such posed a threat to national security.
It had also been pointed out that there was a timely need to introduce a new Act since the existing Uniforms Ordinance lacked strong laws to take action against individuals wearing such clothing.
