Residents living on lowlands on either sides of the Kelani river, Gin Ganga and the Kalu Ganga have been cautioned of flooding due to rising water levels in rivers since yesterday (Aug 13).
Irrigation Department authorities have explained that the country is experiencing inclement weather due to the south west monsoon. Incidents of minor flooding in lowlands and earthslips in hilly areas had been reported over the last 24 hours.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted showers more than 150 mm in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces along with the Galle district.
Meanwhile, the landlside warnings issued by the National Building Research Organization to the Ambagamuwa, Kotmale, and Nuwara Eliya divisional secretariats will also be in effect today.
