The Mahanayake Theras of the Four Chapters have said that it is not advisable to gather for festivities during the upcoming Vesak season.
Issuing a special statement, the Chief Prelates called on the public to give priority instead to the spiritual aspect of Vesak instead.
“We also urge the people to consult the defence authorities before organising religious events,” the letter said.
Further, they added that it is the government’s duty to provide security to all Buddhist places of worship at this crucial time.
The four Chief Prelates insisted that the political leaders must cast aside their political differences and unite in order to develop a sustainable plan to eliminate terrorism in the country.
