The Manager of the Mahaweli Authority in Bogasweva, Namalgama was arrested for solicitng a bribe of Rs 5000 from an individual today (May 10).
The suspect has been accused of soliciting the bribe by promising to release a land belonging to the Mahaweli Authority which had not been leased out to an individual.
Officials of the Bribery Commission had arrested the officer who has been identified as L.R.K. Jayathilaka. He is due to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court in near future.
The Bribery Commission is investigating further into the incident.
