Army Chief-of-Staff Major General Shavendra Silva assumed duties as the Colonel of the Commando Regiment yesterday (Apr 05).
Following the religious observances and the official proceedure of accepting the appointment, the new Colonel of the Commando Regiment planted a sapling in the compund of the Ganemulla Commando Regiment Headquarters.
He then proceeded to address the troops as a formality on such occassions, the Army said.
Major General Shavendra Silva is also the Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment.
