A 37-year old man has been taken into custody after he set another man on fire in Valaichchenai yesterday (Apr 04).
The incident had occured when an argument had broken out between the two individuals while they were under the influence of liquor last evening.
During the heated argument, the 37-year old had poured petrol onto the victim and had set fire to the body after stabbing him.
Area residents had given chase to the suspect and had handed him over to the police after capturing him when he attempted to flee the area following the incident.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect had initally stabbed the victim with a jaggered edge of the bottle before setting him on fire.
The victim has been identified as Nagan Samiya, a 58-year old father of two. Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Valaichchenai police.
