A man who set fire to himself within the premises of the Katatagama Temple succumbed to death yesterday (Mar 03).
Priests and clergymen at the temple had taken measures to save the victim by dousing the flames using water.
The victim was rushed to the Kataragama District Hospital and was transferred to the Hambantota Base Hospital for further treatment.
He has been identified as a 59-year old resident of Ranminithenna.
The walls of the temple and some drawings on the roof were destroyed due to the fire.
