Mattala Airport hosts training exercise for 'Cormorant Strike'

A Field Training Exercise (FTX) held as part of the "Exercise Cormorant Strike VIII - 2017" took place last evening (19) at the Mattala International Airport. 

Exercise Cormorant Strike VIII commenced on September 3 at the Minneriya Army Training School. Various training exercises as part of Cormorant Strike have already been held in several areas including Kuchchaveli, Monkey Bridge, Serunuwara and Toppigala. 

Meanwhile, a Lance Corporal was injured and admitted to Hambantota Hospital during the FTX conducted yesterday at the Mattala Airport, The soldier had been rappelling down a building with the aid of a rope when met with an accident, which caused injuries to his right leg. He was admitted to the Hambantota Hospital. A hospital spokesman stated that the soldier's condition is not serious. 

Over 2100 army personnel are participating in this year's Cormorant Strike. They are being joined by 370 navy personnel and 197 air force personnel. In addition 69 foreign military members from nations including India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Malaysia, China, Russia, Iraq, Israel, United States, and Indonesia, are also participating.
