Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed security officials to provide maximum security for the upcoming Esala Perahera in Kandy.
He had made these remarks during a special meeting which had been held at the Sri Dalada Maligawa to discuss matters concerning the procession.
Wickremesinghe had also called on the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera and obtained his blessings after the meeting.
Security has remained tightened in the country especially at public gatherings following the terrorist bombings on April 21.
