The Meteorological Department has issued a possible cyclone warning in the seas off Pottuvil within the next 24 hours.
According to the weather forecast, a depression about 950 kilometers to the South East of Pottuvil has been in effect since 8 am today (Apr 26) and could intensify into a deep depression and then a cyclone.
Meanwhile, the forecast also predicted showers or thundershowers in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces while similar weather patterns could be experienced in other areas after 2 pm tomorrow.
Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm can also be expected at some places.
The general public, Naval and fishing communities have been requested to take heed of the weather forecasts which would be issued by the Department in due course.
