The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert forecasting heavy winds in certain areas of the country.
According to the warning, wind speeds are expected to clock between 50 - 60 kmph in the Northern, North-central, North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee and Matale districts.
Further, the Department noted that this situation is expected to prevail in the afternoon and at night. Wind speed is likely to enhance up to 40 to 50 kmph in other areas.
