The Meteorological Department has warned fishermen to refrain from fishing in the seas from Mannar to Galle from 5:30 pm today (Jul 17) until July 20.
According to a red alert issued by the Department, strong winds clocking between 70 to 80 kmph could be experienced in these areas along with rough seas.
This situation is expected to prevail along the coastline from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Galle and Hambantota. The Disaster Management Centre also said that it would instruct all fisheries harbours to refrain from sending fishermen out to sea.
The public too has been urged to refrain from going out to seas during this period, the Meterological Department noted.
