The Center for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) expressed its serious concern over the possibilities of the military could be used to influence the reduction of the voter turnout in the North. Convenor of CMEV Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu noted that in the last year Northern Provincial Council (NPC) election the intimidation of the voters by military was subtle in the province. "If the voters decided to vote among all of these intimidations they will come out and cast their vote as a reflection of their anger towards such intimidations" he said. At the end of campaigning, CMEV documented a total of 420 incidents, with 237 major incidents and 183 minor incidents. Nearly 4500 election monitors will be deployed across the country to monitor the election process next Thursday.
