The Consumer Affairs Authority has granted permission to increase the prices of imported milk powder.
Minister Rishard Bathiudeen said that a kilogram of imported milk powder will be increased by Rs 60 while a 400g packet of milk powder will go up by Rs 25.
Accordingly, a kilogam of imported milk powder would be priced at Rs 920 while 400 grams of milk powder would cost Rs 370.
A shortage of milk powder was witnessed across the country over the recent past due to the failure of the authorities to increase the prices of powdered milk.
Accordingly, the cabinet of ministers, this week, granted approval to devise a milk powder pricing formula to determine the prices in future.
