Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe today defended and lauded Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s statement which forewarned the public to 'tighten their belts' as hard times are approaching.
"It’s a very responsible, open and transparent statement that doesn’t say anything negative about the country's economy" Minister Samarasinghe told a SLFP news conference.
He also added that the country is already tightening its belt by imposing a 200 per cent margin to import luxury cars and by stopping vehicle permits of public officials, government servants and politicians for one year.
