Against the backdrop of President Sirisena's statements that the Grade 5 scholarship exam would be abolished, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today (April 2) insisted that the exams will continue to be conducted for students of low-income earning families.
Speaking to Times Online, the Minister said that he has called for a report from the National Institute of Education (NIE) concerning the Grade Five scholarship examination.
Future measures pertaining to this examination will be decided after the NIE has submitted its report containing recommendations on the exam, Mr. Kariywasam noted.
However, he added that certain changes might come into effect while conducting the examination for students who are capable of affording a proper education.
