Minister Johnston Fernando and two others charged for causing a loss to the state by making use of 153 CWE employees for political activities during the period when the Minister was the co-operative Minister between 2010- 2014 period were discharged today by the Colombo High Court.
Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendi accepted the preliminary objetions raised by the defense counsel that the charges were filed in contrary to the Bribery Act.
The others discharged in the case were former CWE Chairman Eraj Fernando and former Working Director Mohamed Zakir.
The Bribery Commission had filed action against the Minister and the other two.
The counsel for the three persons charged urged that the previous order by the Magistrate in relation to this case be set aside and the case be rejected on the grounds that the charges had been filed in contrary to the Bribery Act.
