Minister of Health (Dr.) Rajitha Senaratne today (Dec 21) said that measures would be taken to increase the Sugar Tax imposed on Carbonated drinks and fruit juices.
Minister Senaratne made these remarks after assuming office at the Ministry of Health a short while ago.
The sugar tax was decreased by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on November 30 in his capacity as the finance minister following which the GMOA requested him to reconsider his decision since it brought about adverse effects to the health of the people.
