Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he would pay special attention to finding a permanent stable political solution to the issue of ethnic divisions in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Modi had made these remarks during a discussion held with a group of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians led by leader R. Sampanthan.
The meeting had lasted for about 10 minutes at the Indian High Commission.
During the meeting, the TNA parliamentarians had reportedly sought the intervention of India to provide a solution in order to resolve the inter-communal crisis, provided that it does not split the country even further.
They had pointed out that the decentralisation of power had not taken place appropriately through the 1987 Indo-Lanka peace accord.
Meanwhile, the Indian Premier had reportedly said that he would consider a suggestion by TNA parliamentarians to set-up an airline service between Palali and India after transforming the Palali Airport into an international one.
He had also pledged that he would provide an opportunity for TNA parliamentarians to hold talks with him in India as well.
Parliamentarians Dharmalingam Siddarthan, M.A. Sumandiran, Selvam Adaikalanathan, and Mavai Senathirajah had also attended the meeting.
