Moratuwa Uni students protest over failure to resolve campus issues

Students from the Moratuwa University signed a petition and engaged in a protest at the university premises yesterday (26) over the alleged failure by the university administration to resolve seven key grievances of the student population.

Students alleged that the administration had agreed to resolve these issues during earlier discussions, but had failed to take any concrete steps to do so. 

The protest was held over the following key student issues within the university: Failure to resolve the problem surrounding student hostels for first year students, lecture hall shortage, delay in the construction of the proposed student center, buildings whose construction have been suspended halfway, constructions which harm the environment, lack of sports facilities, failure to provide an office for the student union and the increase in the price of food at the university canteen. 

Over 1000 students from all four faculties of the university took part in the protest.
