Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development said 754 people who illegally dumped garbage at various places in the Colombo City were taken into custody within the last two weeks.
The Ministry said the army personnel attached to the city beautification unit would take photographs of the sites where garbage gets collected or have a risk of a collection, two times per day between 4-6 in the morning and between 3-5 in the evening.
All the photographs are then sent to the relevant officials via MMS according to which the garbage collection operations will be conducted.
During the progress evaluation sessions held at 7 pm everyday, it will be investigated whether the environment police teams, local government and private officials have performed their duties.
The ministry said if the private companies that handle the garbage collection have not performed their duties properly they would be fined.
